- This family-friendly unit is self-contained and can accommodate a minimum of 12 children and a maximum of 16 (in critical need).
- The construction of TOUCO Village is targeted to begin in 2014, and depending on the availability of funds, it will proceed in four phases, each phase adding five houses. Financial realities till now seem to indicate that phase one will probably have only one house built. The expected 20 families on the hill will add to the present village a population of more than 200 children, calling for expanding the neighboring primary school, which currently has only 173 students.
- The school expansion may pose a problem in advancing the Upendo Village settlement as the government may not have the means and will to do it. But improving this remote school would be a blessing to everyone there. Some children travel ten miles daily to school. The school currently lacks staff houses and hence currently suffers from teacher shortages (50%). Only four out of eight are on sight now and have low morale. A little incentive like staff housing would assist in retaining the teachers and improving the academic achievements of students, which we wish these orphans would have.
